Thin-film PV

Thin-film solar cells and modules have experienced a remarkable market share increase during the last few years, and the advances in this technology have been spectacular. The main advantage of thin-film solar modules is their significant lower cost of production, since they use less demanding manufacturing techniques and less pure material compared to the mainstream mono- and polycrystalline cells. This however comes with reduced efficiencies, meaning that they require larger areas to produce the same amounts of energy. Where space constraints are not an issue, a thin-film based system can be cheaper, and they therefore make exceptional candidates for photovoltaic parks.

The subsidy schemes in Cyprus do not allow for systems larger than 150 kW. Even in those cases however, thin-film technologies can provide a cost-competitive and reliable solution.
