Electricity for RES
Photovoltaics
1. Solar panels
Solar Panels are a form of active solar power, a term that describes how solar panels make use of the sun's energy: solar panels harvest sunlight and actively convert it to electricity. Solar Cells, or photovoltaic cells, are arranged in a grid-like pattern on the surface of the solar panel. These cells collect sunlight during the daylight hours and convert it to electricity. Solar panels are typically constructed with crystalline silicon, which is used in other industries (such as the microprocessor industry), and the more expensive gallium arsenide, which is produced exclusively for use in photovoltaic (solar) cells.
Solar panels are also assembled by depositing amorphous silicon alloy in a continuous roll-to-roll process. The solar cells created from this process are called Amorphous Silicon Solar Cells, or a-Si.
Solar Panels constructed using amorphous silicon technology, are more durable and thinner than their crystalline counterparts, but convert less of the sun’s energy to electricity.
Nova Energia Ltd. is the representative of some of the best PV manufacturers in the market. The products we represent are certified from international organizations for their quality and guaranteed performance.
2. Inverters
An inverter converts the DC electricity from sources such as batteries & solar panels to AC electricity, the same kind the grid provides. The electricity can be at any required voltage; in particular it can operate AC equipment designed for mains operation, or rectified to produce DC at any desired voltage.
Grid tie inverters can feed energy back into the distribution network because they produce alternating current with the same wave shape and frequency as supplied by the distribution system. They can also switch off automatically in the event of a blackout.
Nova Energia Ltd. provides products that couple optimally with our range of PV modules in order to design systems that have the highest possible efficiency.
3. Mounting systems - Trackers
Solar insolation is a measure of how much solar radiation a given solar panel or surface receives. The greater the insolation, the more solar energy can be converted to electricity by the solar panel. Cyprus average daily insolation per m2 horizontal surface is around 4.8 kWh/m2/day, among the highest in Europe.
Other factors that affect the output of solar panels are weather conditions, shade caused by obstructions to direct sunlight, and the angle and position at which the solar panel is installed.
Solar panels function the best when placed in direct sunlight and away from obstructions. Solar panel efficiency can be optimized further by using dynamic mounts that follow the position of the sun in the sky and rotate the solar panel to get the maximum amount of direct exposure during the day as possible. Such configurations affect the investment cost accordingly.
Nova Energia Ltd. can provide our customers with mounting solutions that will match every system’s requirements and fulfil the customer’s expectations. We offer a combination of imported and domestic products that will ensure the highest quality in a competitive price.
Thin-film PV
Thin-film solar cells and modules have experienced a remarkable market share increase during the last few years, and the advances in this technology have been spectacular. The main advantage of thin-film solar modules is their significant lower cost of production, since they use less demanding manufacturing techniques and less pure material compared to the mainstream mono- and polycrystalline ...
