What are PV cells and what are PV panels?
PV cells are thin wafers of specially treated silicon that have the property of producing electricity when sunlight shines on them. Many PV cells connected together and positioned inside a proper metal case form a solar panel, the final product you buy.
What is a PV system?
A PV system is a system that is designed to produce grid-quality electricity. An inverter and a mounting system are among components required for the system to work.
How much will a PV system cost, and does the government help?
The total system cost depends on the size of the project. The larger it is, the less you have to pay for every unit of power installed. The new government subsidies mean that you sell the energy you produce to EAC at a higher price than they sell it to you (about three times as much), so every second month a cheque comes to your front door, even if you’re away from home. This way the payback time can be very low, between 6-10 years for a system that will work even beyond 30 years.
Are there financial aids for PV systems?
Most of the local banks have prepared specialised loans that work on the basis that you service the loan from the payments you receive by selling your electricity. This way your personal financial contribution can be as low as zero
How long will it take to install a PV system?
The engineering, design and installation time depend on the scale of the project. There is some time required for the processing of the relevant applications to the various authorities for which we are not in control, but we will do our best to reduce the delay. The whole procedure should not last for more than a few months.
Is a PV system harmful?
Not in any way. The operation of the panels and the inverter are silent, and there is no pollution associated with the production of electricity by other means (e.g. burning oil). Plus, the system components hardly need any maintenance, so you are guaranteed trouble-free operation for many years.
